These past few months I have been diving into understanding the function of our brain. How do we separate our brain from our mind? How do we quiet the mind to let the brain function effectively in strength and mobility.
Since reading Dan Millman’s “The way of the Peaceful Warrior” where Socrates tells Dan that the way to becoming a peaceful warrior IS to first “take out the trash” or to “lose our minds”.
The trash is the thing that is keeping you from the only thing that matters.
This moment.
Here and now.
And when you truly are in the here and now,
you'll be amazed at what you can do,
and how well you can do it
How we work that knowledge into daily performance is our BIGGEST struggle. Welcome to life!
Thank You Science
As a trainer one really great way of taking attention away from “trash” talking minds is to use neurology to help your clients bring attention to their brain. When you can bring neurological awareness to create better physical outcome, this takes the attention away from trash thoughts like: “I am too tired today” / “I’m am not strong” / “I am not flexible enough to do this” etc etc…
Understanding how the nervous system works is very fascinating. Stimulating parts of the brain that produces a better physical output is as simple as touching to activate a sensory input for more flexibility, changing a person’s fixation to engage muscle, or even cuing simple breath work to activate the parasympathetic nervous system when your clients come to you stressed. Putting attention to our bodies to gauge the inner workings of our brains and alternatively, working on our nervous system to stimulate the brain to create better physical output of the body! Thank You Science!
Mr Miyagi or Daniel San
As a trainer or instructor it is very daunting to think that we should be like a Mr Miyagi when it comes to training, but in fact we are all Daniels. Just like our brains make new connections through new experiences, we as humans are constantly learning and evolving together. Working with private clients is a valuable and humbling experience for me. There is no one size fits all when it comes to matters of the body and the mind. Where I have found the benefits of teaching private clients is the attention to personally accept individuals as individuals and with my help, build strength from a space of awareness.
